Is it true the vokey design titelist wedges will be banned in 09 on the pga tour?

  1. Not the vokey design, but the grooves that they have right now on tour (spin milled, mack daddy, zip grooves) will be banned on the tour. The overall size and depth of the groove will be reduced to encourage more imagination around the greens, it is getting too easy for the pros to get up and in. It will put a premium on missing it in the right spots.


  2. I don't beleive that the PGA Tour plans to implement any rules that differ from the USGA Rules of Golf.  That would be a first.

    There is talk of the square grooves being declared illegal during the next revision of the Rules of Golf, which will go into effect in 2010.

  3. Nothing decided yet.  USGA and R&A are always reviewing equipment and tolerances for same, and there have been some rumblings that the spin milled wedges and mack daddy grooves might be hurting the game.  So they may make a new ruling on grooves at the next session.
