I know the main international airport in Costa Rica is in Alajuela at several minutes from San Jose downtown.

Is it true that there is a former international airport in San Jose downtown and it is still an active airport. Or my friend was only talking about an airport that was in the Sabana park but there is no runaway anymore?

  1. Yes it is true.

As you said, the actual international airport is the Juan Santamaria which is located in Alajuela. But they still have an airport very near San Jose downtown which name is Tobias Bolaños.

Tobias Bolaños is only used for local flights not for international flights.

Notice that Tobias Bolaños is a different airport than the one that was in Parque La Sabana which long time ago was the costarican international airport.

The other international airport is located in Liberia.
