  1. No, they don't have any proof.  And no, they are not thinking of taking their medals away.  As far as the IOC and FIG is concerned, the matter is closed.  We just keep hearing about it because the media is making a big deal over it.

The age limit was put into place in 1992.  The purpose was to discourage intense training at a young age, and to encourage gymnasts to stay in the sport longer.  Unfortunately, the rule doesn't make much sense, because of the nature of the sport.

Gymnasts will always start training at a young age, because that's the only way to succeed in the sport.  If you haven't reached a certain level by the time you hit puberty, it's extremely difficult to go much further.  You just can't start training at age 10 or 12 and hope to reach the elite level.

And the age limit doesn't really make people to stay in gymnastics longer.  Most gymnasts hit their peak around age 14-16.  Those who miss the Olympics because of the age restriction have to beat up their bodies for another 4 years if they want to fulfill their Olympic dream.  And not many girls can do that.  Gymnastics is extremely tough on the body, especially as you get older... and especially with the skill requirements getting harder and harder.  Most girls' bodies just can't take that kind of abuse for so many years.  Yes, there are exceptions, but for every 18-20 year-old you see in the Olympics, there are 100s of gymnasts who dropped out or got injured without ever having the chance to compete in an Olympics.

They need to get rid of the age limit rule.  There's no way to enforce it, and it doesn't do what it was supposed to do anyway.

  2. I haven't heard anything. Even if it was true, that would be mean...

  3. They have proof, they are in the process of reviewing at the moment.

  4. As far as I know, they aren't taking the medals away as of right now.  And gymnastics is the only sport with an age limit! I think it's unfair! "he" was amazing on the uneven bars and if you're ready to do it then go for it!

Ohh and i think Shawn Johnson is fabuless!! I thought the judging was unfair for that and she should have won gold!

  5. The concern is that the amount of training necessary to compete at this level is actually detrimental to growning bones. By 16, they have stopped growning as rapidly.

if they have the evidence, this will be a major pair of black eyes for China, who would have to admit they cheated

  6. nope
