You could be arrested because the train rails are considered private property of the railroad.  Most likely you wouldn't be unless there are other reasons like mischief, vandalism, or a near miss with train.

In any mode of transportation these days, they are a lot more likely to catch you, since 9/11 they are watching rails a lot more closely than before.  Before, it wasn't much of a deal, but if someone thinks you are sabotaging the train or something, 20 different kinds of police will respond.

If you are not engaged in otherwise dangerous activity, vandalism or dealing drugs for instance, you will be asked to vacate the property immediatly.

If you are cooperative and it is your first offense, you are probably free to go.

the agent does have right to arrest and it is possible but they deal with trespassers every day and cannot possibly arrest each and every one of them.

The model State railroad trespass prevention bill accomplishes the following:

1) Makes entering or remaining upon a railroad right-of-way or other railroad property a misdemeanor subject to not more than a $100 fine, imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or both.

2) Makes stowing away on trains a misdemeanor subject to not more than a $1,000 fine, imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.

Vandalism during trespass would be a FELONY.
