them behind sometimes?

Like they forget how many people were in the water, and so they will abandon people in the open sea without realizing it till the next day? So these unfortunate people drown, or are eaten alive by sharks, or other horrible things happen to them?

  1. most reputable operations have an accountability system, with a minimum of a head count...just do a little research before heading out for a legit operation and you want have a movie made about your adventure!

  2. ever seen the movie open water. stupid movie but that happens in it.

  3. Yes, it has happened in the past and does continue to happen, but it is not very common.

I have about 500 dives.  My wife has about 1,000 dives.  The woman that owns the dive shop has been diving since 1968, and she stopped counting her dives at 5,000 back in the 90's.  None of us knows anyone that has ever been left by a boat.  None of us knows anyone that knows anyone that has even been left by the boat.

The closest I can come if that someone once told me that their brother's, girlfriend's, roommate's, dad's friend back in college was left to drift one time.

  4. NO! Companies are very careful to make sure that everyone is on the boat before they leave. I have been out on a TON of boats and each time there was a sign in sheet and we could not leave until EVERYONE had signed the sheet.

I can guarantee you, if you go out with a non sketchy scuba company you will NEVER get left out in the ocean

One time me and my buddy were diving in open ocean and we got caught in a current and came up so far away from the boat we couldn't see it any more. But our boat came and found us, our safety sausages made their job easier, none the less they knew we were gone.

    EDIT:

There is no way you get into that type of situation unless you know it is a possibility. I was trained for this type of diving and knew it was a risk. In your everyday Open Water Diver certification dives you are not put into situations like this. You will be in a group with dive masters constantly watching for those going astray. ( I know thats my job).

Dont think diving is dangerous because of what happened to me, it is one of the safest and most enjoyable activities out there (to me).

  5. yeah...its hard 2 keep track of alot of ppl

  6. Never seen anything on the news about it? Go with a good company and you should have no problems. Good luck and have fun!
