  1. Your OS via updates and and a independent AV supply the protection to your computer. Sites only provided security regards personal information via locks and encryption

    Operating system security is a must - if the OS allows remote code execution then all bets are off.

    Web Servers also need to be secure but that is a separate question. Do you mean "Are web based apps intrinsically more secure that apps that run on the client?" Well, not really. They are just as vulnerable to all the attacks that a local application could suffer and vulnerable to some new ones too.
