...and how hard do you think it would be for a 21 year old to move down south to teach art with a BA?

  1. Most public school districts do not require a Master's degree to teach; a Bachelor's degree will do fine.  However, you will have to be state certified in order to teach.  It varies from state to state, but if you don't have any semester hours in teaching, expect at least 30 hours to be required.  Student teaching hours are generally 15 hours, with the rest of coursework devoted to child psychology, discipline, pedagogy, etc.

  2. As far as I know, here in Pinellas County, it doesn't take more than a Bachelors Degree and if you are looking for a lesser job, a teachers certificate, though I don't know what is required to get that.  Check out the link-they are active openings.

  3. In general, to teach in a public school you either need a Master's Degree or PhD no matter where you are.

In private schools, however, this rule does not apply. I taught in a private college in Pennsylvania and I only have a Bachelor Degree. But, I have alot of life experience in my subject. So, it depends on the private school and how you handle your interview with the hiring committee.

I'm sure this applies to "down south" as with anywhere else. So, it depends on the school and it depends on what you bring to the table. it also helps to have an "in" at the school. For example, a current professor who endorses you; as it was in my case.

    Good luck!

  4. You dont need a masters degree. Actually you can teach just about anywhere down here (N. Carolina) with any degree. There are different programs in which you can get a job to be a teacher but have to get certified within a certain amount of time to remain a teacher.

  5. In Florida, you do not have to have a Master's degree.  You do not have to have a Bachelor's in Education, either.  As long as you have a Bachelor's degree, you can qaulify for a temporary certificate and then you have 3 years to get your permanent certificate.  Here is a link for you to look what is required in Florida.

  6. down south?

I think that if you want to teach you owe it to yourself to learn more about the US and the ways in which school distrscts are structured

  7. It varies by school district. I do not know of any that require anyone to have more than a BA, but they do like to hire people with higher degrees at many schools.  You can look on the district sites and then at particular schools public statistics; these usually show the percentage of teachers employeed with each level of degree.

  8. To teach Primary or Secondary education (K-12) anywhere in the USA, the requirements are for a four year BA in education and a teacher certification.  A Masters will get you more money but it is not a requirement to teach.  Some districts may choose a Master's Degree holder OVER someone who only has a BA, but there is  no official requirement, in the south or anywhere else.

  9. I don't think you even need to have gone to school.

  10. You don't need a masters degree to teach anywhere in the US (public school anyway) - you need an undergraduate degree.

  11. Yes, it is possible, but most of our teachers where I live in N.C. have their Master's.  Here are our current job openings.:
