I have a friend who is 21, with a driving licenese in Belgium(but needs to drive in the UK), but I have recently found out that you have to be 25 to drive in *spain* if you were on the oppisite side? I do not know if neither is true, but would like some one to tell me what the laws are in the UK, if any.

  1. that would be a silly law, ive never heard of that

  2. i live in uk and drove in spain when i 23, so i dont know where you heard that you have to be 25 to drive on the opposite side over there.

i dont believe there is a law stating you have to be 25 to drive in england, as long as you have the appropriate licence and insurance, then you can drive over here, regardless of the side you normally drive on

  3. no there is deiifernet speed limits on difo roads, eg national spped limit on a duble carage road is 70mph single caradge road is 60mph then other road limits on diferent roads.

    hoped i helped

  4. You have to be 18 to drive in Spain and Belgium.  The side you drive is irrelevant to your age.

  5. Is it true that you have to be 25 years old to drive in a country which drives on the opposite side of the road to your home country (the country where you sat your driving test and who issued your licence)?

Belgium is in the EU so I have looked up and linked the U.K. government rules for drivers from the E.U. driving in the U.K. and there is no mention of any rule stipulating you must be over 25 years old.

I would imagine that it wouldn't matter how old you are but how long you have had your driving licence for as a general way of judging experience/capability as a driver and therefor the likelihood that you would be able to drive sensibly and be able to adjust to the differences of driving on the opposite side of the road to which you are accustomed to.

  6. If I understood your question correctly, that is a silly question, because then you have peopel driving towards each other.

No, some countries drive on one side, some on the other, but regardless of your age, you drive on one side.

Here, you drive on your left side. If you're over or udner 25 you drive on your left.

  7. It is not true, but many hire car companies will not hire unless you are over 25

  8. No it's not true.  I have driven in all of them from 18 years onwards.  In the UK & Ireland, you can drive at 17, but this is the exception in Europe.

I think what your friend may be mixed up with, that some rental companies (not all though) either

    (a) require people to be 25 to rent a car in some countries

e.g.in Ireland (article in Dutch) http://www.ierland-informatie.nl/autohur...

    or

    (b) that under 25's pay higher rental charges
