Is it unhealthy to do cardio everyday?

My friend just told me I'm not giving my muscles a chance to heal if I'm doing it everyday...and that's not healthy...is that true?

  1. No it is not unhealthy to do cardo every day. The cardio stress the heart and lungs more than the muscles.

    When you are doing resistance training, (Lifting weights), then you need to rest your muscles and should have a off day between workouts.

    Cardo can be done every day, or worked into a weight lifting regime.  

    Of course, depending on the exercise that you are doing, if you are running everyday  you may run into joint problems like bad knees, etc...

  3. Everyone gets cardio every day simply from daily activities, any extra that raises the heart rate is good for you. Good nutrition and  exercising is never bad for you.  I used to run 20 miles a day, ten in the morning and ten in the afternoon, I was in the best shape of my life along with a great nutrition plan and weight training.

    The only reason you would need to rest your body is in the case of serious and heavy weight training, I do this and take two days off per week not only to allow the muscles rest and recharge the body.  Cardio alone is good for you on a daily basis.

  4. Well if you feel sore the next day it might be a good idea to give it a miss that day, but I think it depends on how long/ intense the workout is.

  5. I do cardio everyday, but once a week I go for a light walk. Your friend is right you should have a day's rest. Don't run everyday maybe walk for your 'day off'

  6. NO that's weight training cardio as much as u want...as loong as ur eating to refuel ur muscles like if u do more cardio eat a lil more u know..even when trying to lose weight..

  7. No thats not true. Daily cardio is great for the body and it keeps you in shape. It is very heathly. Now if you lift weights, you should only be doing that every other day because the lifting actually does "rip" your muscles and they need time (a day) to repair themselves before you lift again

  8. Cardio is not like strength training where you put a lot of stress on (and actually tear) the muscles. With cardio, you are putting less stress on individual muscles, so you don't need to give them time to recover unless you're feeling sore. It's good to do cardio 4 to 6 times per week. It is important, however, that you do give your body at least one rest day per week.

  10. It's usually best to do cardio one day, then weights the next. 5 hours of work out time per week is ideal. As well, change up your cardio... don't always use the treadmill. Swimming, treadmill, stationary bike, etc.
