Seriously, is it?

Because I'm like that, very uncomfortable around civilization. Always have. And I'm thinking there are no more girls who are my type. When I'm out of school, all I do is stay in a dark house on the internet or video games. I'm 19.

So, is it really unhealthy/unusual for young people to be anti-social, away from civilization, and in his little dark world?

  1. I don't think so. Some people are basically solitary in nature and feel more comfortable being by themselves and engaging in various activities to keep themselves entertained. You're not alone. I would far rather be by myself at home than in a large group of people at a party. Large crowds freak me out.

  2. This is the same question I posed for myself a few weeks ago. I called myself depressed. Soon after, I said I just preferred the company of myself.

Now, I view myself from an outside party's view, and I've concluded that I am not depressed or solitary in nature. I am just justifying my ineptness in forging and maintaining relationships.

Although it came as an unwelcome character flaw to admit, I am glad I came to this realization. I recall studies that show that humans need interactions and evocations of emotions from other humans in order to be healthy mentally and even physically.

Honestly, I felt this mental deterioration. I lost my conversation skills, and began to be very cynical and rudely sarcastic. I compulsively lied and thought about suicide. Physically, I felt drained and unproductive.

I am not saying that loving solitude means you will degenerate mentally and physically. Some of our great inventors and writers spent/spend great deals of time alone to be at one with themselves and their thoughts.

I do believe there should be a balance, however. Get yourself a job. In this case, you are obliged to interact with other people, yet you are getting paid.

    Have fun.

  3. what i think is that it is ok. you are still maintaining contact with civilization and its not like ur social skills are suffering, from what ur question reads u still have the ability to communicate

and i think this is the tether of anti-social..when u cant, not when u dont communicate...

    simple

maybe u just really like video games and internet

and there is probably girls out there for you..i used to have...actually many of my male friends are mad into gaming..its one of the reasons i like them! its an in common thing.

sometimes civilization is ugly..i totally get that..like i look around and shudder because its all too loud rude and noisy...............

switching off sometimes actually feels more healthy than say htting the club circuit of a weekend, not that im saying thats bad...just that everything in moderation i guess

  4. Well im 19 and am pretty antisocial on most occasions and i do play video games quite alot. The question you should ask is if you feel like a balanced person. if you are happy not being around people then thats fine, i myself hate being around most people. if you feel as if being antisocial is somewhat of a drain on you try to make yourself talk to people you normally wouldnt talk to and then work from there to find out how social you would like to be. As for girls, if you can imagine a personality, someone has it and often the types of women people choose for themselves arent the right choices for them anyway so keep an open mind.

  5. I have been anti social my whole life. I wasn't rich enough for the rich, I wasn't black enough for the black, I didn't get high enough for the stoners. So I kept to myself. Not no-one in any way was going to change the fact that they wore labels. I didn't have the label of anti social because you can't have that label if no-one notices you. I chose to be by myself under this rule to many friends to many problems, and definitely to much drama.

  6. Sounds like you suffer from depression.
