  1. It tends to run in families... my doc said most bedwetters have at least one parent who wet as a child.  He also said that the alarms only help if the child is almost there, anyway. He explained that our bladders send a signal to our brains saying, "I'm full... go find a toilet!"  But the connection from the part of the brain that knows it's time to go doesn't get that message to the part of the brain that makes us wake up until we are two or three years old in most cases. In the case of bedwetters, that connection hasn't developed yet, and it's just a matter of time.  No amount of waking a child or training or punishing will work.  (My oldest child did wear an alarm; it only woke ME up.  heh heh)  My kids all stopped wetting at different ages:  from 2, all the way up to age 12.  The older they get, the kinder we should be about it; the kid is already traumatized and mortified as it is. Just put a waterproof pad on the bed and only use a bottom sheet; give the child a couple of warm blankets and you're set.  At the age of 9, a child can be responsible for washing the bedding each morning before school.  It's good for them to learn responsibility; just as long as the person who reminds him/her can do it in a positive sort of way.   Good luck.  It'll happen.  :)

  2. no its not unheard of for a nine year boy to wet the bed

  3. yes. yes it is. unless you have a "PROBLEM"

  4. I agree with Quilter. My husband wet the bed until he was about 10. That part of his brain just did not develop. Ever. He is on a schedule now and just makes sure he goes every few hours. We have been married 14 years and never an incident, so maybe it might help if you worked on creating a schedule for him and no water or anything before bed. Good Luck. Talk to your doctor. One other thought.... My son wet the bed once and we took him in to be checked and it turned out that he was diabetic. Keep an eye on it. If he "goes" all the time, you might want to have him checked. It is just a simple urine test.

  5. No, it is not unheard of.  Night time enuresis is the medical term for children who involuntarily urinate at night.  There are several causes for this, including heredity.  It can last for some children until they are 12 and in some more severe cases even older.  Using some form of night time protection is perfectly acceptable while waiting for the child to reach the maturity his/her body needs to grow out of it.  It is not something he can control and he needs all the support and encouragement he can get.  It is a source of embarrassment and frustration for any child who suffers with this condition.

  6. no sweetie, it is not....try the bedwetting alarm....it worked for my 8 year old son.....like a charm, restored his self-esteem, made mommy and daddy stop worrying! try it!

  7. well it all depends on whether he's actually potty trained or if he has a bladder problem. it IS strange if he isn't potty trained or ignores the urge but isnt if his bladder has a mild or more severe problem. figure it out and if he has a bladder problem take him to the doctor.

  8. UMM NO COMMENT...
