Bird experts,

I live about an hour south of Pittsburgh, and over the winter while walking my dog in some brush and undergrowth, I stumbled upon a buch with several Ruby Crowned Kinglets in them.

I've never seen a Ruby Crowned Kinglet in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Is it rare for them to be here? As in rare enough to warrant reporting the sighting to wildlife officials?

  1. It's not worth a writeup but it's a feather in your birding cap, so to speak. You just saw one that was migrating a bit early. They are usually seen in your area during spring and fall migrations.
