I'm a beginning golfer. I am going to take some golf lessons this summer and you have to bring your own clubs. I had a nice children's set when I was little but I've (obviously) outgrown that by now. I've been shopping around some local sports stores (WalMart, Target, Sports Authority, Dunhams, Golf Galaxy, B&G sports). I want to make sure I am getting my money's worth. First, do you have any suggestions for some good women's clubs preferably under $350?

Also, while at Sports Authority, they have a little putting "test area" with a few holes so you can get the feel of the set. My favorite set there, the Wilson Hope LX, was only in left-handed at that store (usually right handed). I liked the set, so I decided to try out the left handed club on the "test area". I did it really well and it was easier for me than with a right club from a different set.

Later I tried left & right clubs at a golf range. I could hit both fairly well. Is it rare to be able to golf with both hands? Thanks!

  1. Usually a player picks one side to favor.  Tiger picks right handed.  But he can hit left handed though not as well as his right.  When he was younger, he hits left handed as he was mimicking his dad, and when he was watching his dad it was a mirror image, so he swung left handed.  And he sometimes do turn his club upside down and swing left handed to get out of trouble.

On the other hand I cannot hit left handed at all.  Just feels really uncomfortable.

  2. A ping moxie set can be bought for about $275. I think it is a boy set but that doesn't really matter, does it? And if you can hit with both right and left hands fairly good, It is not rare I know at least three people who can do that.
