Is it unusual to put butter on a bagel?

Is it really that weird putting butter on a bagel? Because my friends say that they have never heard of anyone putting butter on bagels, but it's seems normal to me. I mean, a lot of people put cream cheese on their bagels, but is it really that weird to put butter on it?

It's not unusual.  After all, a bagel is a type of bread, and most people spread butter on their bread, be it toast, bagels, rolls, whatever.

My husband puts butter on his bagels.  I prefer cream cheese.  You can do whatever you like though.  It's you eating it, not your friends.

It is unusual to put anything on a bagel. They are best left in the store or shop. They are such dry nasty tasting things.

It's not weird, nor is it unusual. Cream Cheese is the "traditional" spread for a bagel. But many people use butter, jam, and other items. I use cream cheese, most of the time. But also Peanut Butter. Some people use Nutella, margarine, even cottage cheese and other spreadable cheeses. Top it with what YOU like. You're eating it, not them.

Oh course not!! My husband and kids do it and I usually use Peanut butter or cream cheese. Do whatever you like, after all you are the one eating it!

No, I do it.  Try peanut butter or honey  on cinnamom raisin bagels, it's a good combination of flavors.

I don't know where you're from, but in NY (the bagel capitol) butter is quite common. Cream cheese is the most popular, but anything you put on bread you can put on a bagel- cheese, cold cuts, tuna salad, etc.
