I'm going there in Christmas time, and would like to know what the weather's like. Too cold or endurable?

Will I be able to do the touristy stuff?

I'm going to Nürnberg and Berlin.

  1. It depends on the weather situation at the time, of course. But in the past few years, Christmas time often meant temperatures around 2-10°C, and overcast/rainy weather.

In Nürnberg, you might be lucky and get freezing temperatures.

Still, if the weather situation has cold air coming from the north-east, temperatures can very well drop to -10°C or below. Still, chances of snow are usually slim.

The best chances for "winter time" is usually January-March.

As for tourist stuff, yes, you should have no problem with doing that. Have an umbrella at hand and check out the weather report (on TV - ARD around 8:12pm and ZDF around 7:25pm, German language only), or ask the hotel receptionist, they should usually be able to provide you with information about the weather forecast for the day.

  2. Is always different. Last year was not much snow, but was cold. Nuremberg area is always colder, because near the Alps so bring warm clothes and visit also the Christmas Market in Nuremberg this is a huge and famous one. Berlin is always cold, I figure out the East is always colder than West. I was 4 times in Berlin in Wintertime, it was very very cold there. Have fun on your trip.

  3. well it always is like sweat shirt weather they barley get more than an inch of snow but its rain.

  4. It will probably be rainy and about 5-10 degrees warm, as it was over the last years, which is the completely wrong weather! You will be able to do the touristy stuff, but be prepared to do a lot of museum and other inside trips... Enjoy the famous christmas market in Nürnberg though!!!!

  5. During Christmas time it depends on the region, but in Nurnberg it cold be arround 0° degrease and snowy and in Berlin a bit warmer and no snow..

  6. This is a very subjective question, it depends on what you consider to be too cold to be endurable.

If you're going to Nurnberg, then I'll guess you are going to the Christmas Markt - clearly since it is outside and immensely popular.  Plus they have any number of ways to keep you warm outside, including Gluewein.

Average Highs in Berlin and Nurnburg in December are areound 37 Farenheit, or about 2-3 Centigrade, and Lows in Berlin are around 30 F, or -1 C, in Nurnburg 27 F, or -3 F.

Not quite bone-chilling, but not warm.

I recommend packing lots of layers, a good hat and gloves, possibly long underwear if you are planning to be outside for a very long period of time.  If you do this you should be fine - it will be cold, but not unendurable.

Unless you come from a really warm climate and are really sensitive to cold.

  7. If you're from the USA or Canada, you won't have any problems. Germany during the winter can be cold, especially in the south, but there is no way it gets as cold as in the Midwest or northern US, and certainly not Canada. Winters usually aren't snowy until January, but you'll have a good deal of rain in November and December. If you'll be in Nurnberg during Christmas time, you've timed it perfectly. They have the most beautiful Christmas Market of all. You will love it.

  8. I would say bearable, unless you're from Florida. :oP

I was in Bavaria for 2 weeks last November, and was fine.  Temps varied from the 40s (F) to the teens, and I think December is only slightly colder, in general.  That said, you're going to need to pack accordingly-- layers, a good coat (waterproof is a bonus), and good shoes.  Shoewise, I really, really recommend looking into a pair of waterproof hiking boots or something similar, because you will be doing a *lot* of walking.  Everywhere.  My choice was a pair of Nike trail runners-- sort of a cross between a hiking boot & a sneaker/tennis shoe.  More comfortable than a regular boot, but plenty of support & waterproof.   A hat or earmuffs & a good pair of gloves is also a must.

A lot of people love to visit Germany at Christmastime-- the weather may not be the absolute best, but everything is so festive and fun.

  9. It depends on where in Germany you go. Even in southern Germany  it's cold but it's bearable.

  10. Berlin can be very cold in the winter. Mind you, last year it wasn't, just very rainy. But the year before that there was snow or at least ice on the street virtually all the time from November to March.

No idea about Nuremberg, I'm sorry.

  11. You can expect rain, and snow is possible.  Bring warm clothes, good shoes and an umbrella.  But sure, you can still go out and have fun.  Germans do.

  12. it is quite unpredictable, sometimes the snow is heavy sometimes it is normal even worse, not a single ball of snow
