Is it very hard for an english only speaking person to find a job in Ottawa?

  1. Yes and no. The public service represents about 35-40% of the labour market in Ottawa and you need to be bilingual to get a job there. 15-20% of the labour market is tech related. So if you don't have a tech background and can't speak French that eliminates more than half the jobs.

    The thing with Ottawa is that with the public service you'll have a bunch of unqualified individuals making above average income who do nothing all day. For someone who has to work harder to make less that might be very discouraging and depressing. The only way I'd consider moving to Ottawa is if I was assured at least a $90-100k job or else I wouldn't do it. Making $40k a year when you see people making $60k year   who do nothing but surf the net all day  but have the job because they can speak french would be upsetting to most people.
