  1. Well, if you mean as in a contractor, your chances are about 10-percent less than a US servicemember over there.  The true blue in uniform are target indicators for insurgency!  Although, being a gringo (means 'foreigner' in Espanol-) over there, rules still apply, but perhaps less.  Wear local clothing, blend in and do not wear anything American (or Coalition-base; British, other, etc...if you are international here!)  I am not sure of the security since I was there during the Invasion, never had to deal with the insurgents but I am well-trained in guerilla warfare and extensive terrorism doctrines  Just ensure that you have more than a half tank of gas, at all times.  And always keep up-to-date reports within 'whoever' deals with consular affairs.  You might want to know which areas to avoid; and know where the 'good guys' are at.  And the most important thing!  Communication.

NOTE:  Where you from, your name tells me that you are a fellow believer of the God of Abraham!?  Oorah!  May peace be with you my brother!

  2. If you mean as a contractor, it's not that hard...depending on the job.  I'm currently in Al Kut as a contractor, it has it's ups and downs.  It also depends on the camp you are put on.  I did one year in Anaconda which was a good place to be compared to this h**l hole I'm in now!!  The heat is another thing but you get used to it, especially if you come in the winter months so your body adapts to the changes. Good luck.

  3. Don't go there, its hardcore life to live in there.
