Is it warm enough to swim at uraguay's punta del este beaches in early october?

how do you get from buenos aires to punta del este and how much does it cost r/t?

I think the water will still be chilly in October in Punta del Este.....

you can get there from Buenos Aires by plane, 150 dollars plus taxes (aprox.) flying with Pluna (Uruguaian airlines).But you need to check the dates first, because that´d be low seasons and usually there are not flights available everyday.

Or you could go by ship to Montevideo , and then by bus to Punta del Este, but it takes much longer and it´s not that much cheaper unless you go to colonia (another city) by ship, and take the bus there to Punta del Este

The water is still quite cold in October....too cold for me, but the big thing about Punta in October is that it is more or less closed.

PdE as a tourist location is open from around December to February and all the action happens from just before Christmas to just after New Year's Eve.  The majority of shops and even restaurants (including Maccas!) outside of the season actually close down. The stores are stripped and closed!

I have been there both in and outside of season and they are very different places. So much better around Xmas/NYE.  Just out of season, say the beginning of December can be nice as the beaches aren't as packed.

From Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires you can catch the ferry to Montevideo which takes about 3 hours and a connecting bus (2.5 hours) to Punta. Price is $78-95 Arg Pesos. It is relaxing...you can sunbake on the front deck or sit inside if you prefer.

There is also a fast ferry which takes an hour but is far more expensive (not worth it!).

You can combine fast or slow ferry with bus or direct ferry. Check out the website http://www.buquebus.com/
