Is it warm enough to swim outside in Florida in January?

My husband & I are planning a vacation to Orlando in January, and he's concerned it wont be warm enough to swim.

  1. Warm is a relative term.  If your coming from freezing temps in January to Florida yes it will be warm for you.  For us folk who live here in Florida any temp below 60 is cold.  Might we suggest a winter cruise to the tropics and then you will have warm temps.


  2. It should be, but it also could be a bit chilly - there's really no telling.  Winter weather in Florida is unpredictable.

  3. I grrew up in St Petersburg, Fl. and lived for several years in Madeira Beach, right outside St Pete.

    I used to love to go swimming every Christmas day. It was a tradition. It seemed a little cold to me, but, mostly when I came out of the water. Water holds heat longer than air.

    We started it when we used to think it was too cold, but, we saw the tourists from up north swimming and enjoying it. In other words, it helps if you're from up north. It seems positively balmy when you're used to snow.
