Question:

Is it weird for a guy to be a vegetarian?

I've been a vegetarian for almost 7 months now out of compassion for animals, basically ever since I watched the "meet your meat" video. and since the day I changed my diet, I have yet to meet another guy who is vegetarian. I've met like 1 in my life I think. And I'm the only one out of my group of friends who is a vegetarian, at least that I know of. Why is it so uncommon? What are your thoughts when you see a guy who is a vegetarian?

  1. No, it's not weird at all. It's great that you're a vegetarian. My dad has a friend who is both male and vegetarian, so don't worry you're not all alone.

It's probably uncommon because guys like to be seen as tough, and being vegetarian would mean showing compassion towards animals, so even if they are, they might not want to advertise it.

If a guy told me was vegetarian, I would probably like him more, because it's proof that he's kind and not too worried about seeming macho.

  2. never. for me, it's a turn on!! its shows that you strongly believe in something and you fight for what you think is wrong. that's s**y hahah. and i too, am the only vegetarian in my group of friends. which is really LAME. and if i see a guy that's vegetarian i'd probably fall in love because i have yet to find one.. and it would be nice to have someone that have the same opinions as i do:) i needa guy with soul power!!

it's probably uncommon because america is so fat and meat is on every corner in a fast food restaurant. and people don't ever wanna put down their nasty quadruple stacker hamburger because it tastes "good." another thing is that somehow the meat industry brainwashed people into thinking that consuming meat is healthier than none at all. then on top of that, people don't want to listen to 'hippie vegetarian c**p' because they think WE'RE the brainwashed ones and we don't know what we're talking about. i guess it's so uncommon because of pure ignorance or of course hate and uncaringness.

oh and that very same video changed me too:D

  3. I understand that statistically more women are vegetarian/vegan than men. But I've met plenty of other male vegetarians, and I'm vegan myself.

You might enjoy joining a local vegetarian group like Earthsave to meet other like-minded people.

Vegetarians make up about 10% of the population. We're out there! :)

  4. guys just say it p***y or weak to be veg, that real men eat meat cause i guess it makes you tough?

yeh ive only know one in my real life. but keep on!

    maybe youll have a following

  5. well, since i am a girl vegeterian, i would LOVE to know a guy vegetarian :)   i knew 1 at my old school.

wish there were more of them

  6. Yes, there are more women that are vegetarians, but i know plenty of men that are as well.

    It is perfectly normal.

    Hope i helped. x

  7. I love vegetarian guys! But you're right. It is way less common. I think because in our society men are taught that they are supposed to be macho and part of that is eating meat. Unfortunately, males are also taught to be less compassionate than women. It's accepted for a woman to forgo pleasure (in this case, meat eating) for the well-being of others, but a man would be looked at as weak. Males are taught to please themselves before others. But it takes a strong, self-assured man to be a vegetarian. I've seen them get alot of c**p about it. So I think you're awesome! And maybe you're compassion will rub off on some of your friends. The revolution is coming!

  8. You are vegetarian from only 7 months and I am by birth vegetarian. It is very common in India.

I respect a person who is vegetarian or like to be vegetarian.

  9. no..

  10. I imagine because fewer men have a problem with killing animals and are generally less squeamish.

  11. Not at all. My best friend, who is a guy, is the one who inspired me to be a vegetarian. And my male cousin is a hardcore vegan. It's normal.

It's uncommon because men are less likely to think about the negative effects of meat eating than women are. A guy being a vegetarian is a big plus in my book.

  12. no its perfectly normal. if it makes u feel good then by all means...

  13. i don't know why it's so uncommon, but i've been looking for one for years. if only i could find myself a vegan boyfriend that isn't a straight edge scenester...if only.
