Is it weird for a vegan to kill bugs in their home?

im going vegan and i freak out when there's a bug, roach, spiders, centipedes and i kill them..... um... is this normal?

If bugs are harmful to human being, you should kill them...Vegan or not, it is not important. A very good example that I alway tell those vegans, if Aedes mosquitoes carry diseases to human being such as Dengue Fever, are you keep your good heart to let them survive and spread mosquitoes dieseases to human being. Of course NO, you kill them is to serve human life. What is a harmful mosquito? They harm human, you as a vegan, you help human, Who is important? Of course the answer is YOU.... So, it is not weird to kill bugs in your home although you are a vegan.

Recently, I have killed billion of termites, if I don't kill them, they spread to everywhere of the house and destroy a lot of furniture and spread to other house, No choice... my job is to prevent them from destroying the furniture, termites must kill!!

I can sympathize with you it may not be right but I have the same delima, I have some very gnarly spiders in my area that can do harm!  I know several people that have been disfigured from the Brown Recluse spider it leaves a nasty hole in the skin.  So, I am also freaked by spiders!

Well I don't know about that but I do have one sister that is Vegan and she does kill bugs if they bug her but not if they don't bug her!  I also have a female friend that also a Vegan and she doesn't kill bugs.. she catches them in traps and takes them outside.  the traps are small water traps  harmless!   I'm a vegetarian I don't kill bugs except for the ones that get into my ear or else hair.. Usually if I see a bug inside my place I catch in a small jar and take it outside.  My kitty cat usually goes after them so I don't have to bother much! It's just when she sleeping or chasing something else is when I have to bother about bugs if they bother me!

Yeah its normal... I certainly wouldn't condemn you for it!

If it were me I'd try my hardest to get them back outside again- I don't enjoy the idea of killing them, but I still will if I have to. (If a wasp is attacking me, I'll go ape **** on it, taking a life or not.)

Don't guilt yourself over it- there are other problems vegans/vegetarians need to be a little more focused on- animals who have central nervous systems. Intelligent creatures. :)

It's not correct to kill small harmless creatures....I'm a vegetarian and I love all kinds of animals,plants,birds and insects.....If I see a bug I carry it and throw it outside my house....u should also do that.....

Bugs scare me too much to even kill them.... But I wouldn't anyway because I would feel bad for it =\

well thats mean! Im not vegan but im vegetarian, if i see a bug like a spider, or anything that can't "infest" my house or hurt me, i throw outside. otherwise i feel really bad. lol

I don't kill spiders, they don't harm you and I can co-exist with them.

But I'll take any steps I need to to rid my home of anything that can harm me or my family - flies, roaches, rodents and anything else that spreads disease.

Being vegan means doing all you can to minimise your contribution to animal suffering; putting your health at risk is not required.

I agree with Bloomers, I have someone spray the exterior of our home because we also live where we have some threating insects that can harm you.  I have 2 realitives that have been bitten by spiders in there sleep, so I do what I can to protect my family!

that's cruel.  No difference in smashing a bug, and a cow being slaughter.  Once again, pot calling the kettle black. Do as i say, not as i do.  You realize that bugs feel pain?  How inhumane of you.

No it is not weird, search vegan forums for what to do about bugs. If you do it as a hobby yeah that is weird and you aren't vegan.
