Is it weird for someone to always lock the door, no matter where they are?

I've never thought anything of it before, but for as long as I can remember, I always lock the door behind me, no matter what. The other day a friend came over, we went in my room and she asked me why I locked the door, I told her how I always locked the door, but she seemed like she thought it was a little weird. I don't think about it, ever. Its just like instinct or a habit, I don't even notice it. But I know I do it. Is there like a reason behind this? Should I try to not do it?

  1. Nope it is a good habit just make sure you have the keys handy incase of an emergency.

  2. if you're at your parents house and your friend was visiting in your room and you locked the door, I'd find that a little odd too.  If you live in your own place and locked your front door automatically always, I'd think you were smart.

  3. Its a habit I do it and its a very good thing to do to ensure your own safety

  4. paranoria

  5. LOCK THE DOOR its for safety, do not change this habit.

  6. It is a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  I always check to make sure the doors are locked and I was worse about it until I got on medication.

  7. No, it's a good habit...nothing wrong with it.  Better be safe than sorry.

  8. Well, I lock my apartment door whenever I'm home, no matter what time of day or night it is. I live in a locked building, so only people with keys can get in, but that doesn't mean I can't take the extra precaution with my safety.

As for your situation, you said you always lock the door, no matter where you are.... so, when you go to someone else's house, do you lock their door? Do you attempt to lock doors of other places when you go in? Or is it just your house, and your bedroom?

I can see how your friend would think it was a little strange for you to lock your bedroom door with the two of you in there. If you're not going to sleep, or if you're in there hanging out with a friend, you should probably consider leaving that door unlocked. I would definitely get weirded out if a friend locked me in their bedroom with them. I'd probably think they were looking for some kind of sexual interaction. If you've been locking your room your whole life, it's probably just habit. Some people lock their doors because they've been through attacks or trauma that makes then NEED it to be locked or they don't feel safe at home or in their bedroom.

I don't know your reasons, only you know them.
