Is it weird that I don't like hanging out with my friends?

i'm a high school freshman and i just don't enjoy hanging out with my friends. i'd rather be by myself or with my family. whenever my friends and i hang, i just get so bored. all they want to do is talk, eat, shop, see movies, swim, etc. i like adventure and their idea of adventure is getting drunk in the woods at night. i don't like high school parties either because i don't drink. my mom thinks there's something wrong with me because i only hung out with my friends once this summer. do you think this is unusual?

First of all, you don't have to drink just because you are with other people that do.  Every group of friends will always need a designated driver.  

It's important that you work against becoming totally anti-social.

If you don't mind me asking, in what way then do you consider them to be friends?  Nothing is wrong with your introversion but it seems to be like you have a general dislike for them.  Perhaps seeing them as friends isn't correct.  You could find introverts like yourself or be happy yourself

i don't think there is anything too wrong in that. i think the real problem is getting some new friends though. high school is the perfect time to meet new people, especially those who have the same interests as you. maybe you will actually have fun with hanging with them and therefore will participate more often! don't feel bad for not doing the typical girl thing, just find your own thing! good luck.

Good for you!  High school can be rough if you're not into the stereotypical image of what a teenager is supposed to behave like during these years.  Be yourself and pursue your interests...as long as they're legal.

lol we are like exactly the same my friends only like to eat and be fake (not trying to be mean) you and your friends are just different maybe you should find some more friends

im kinda tha same way exept i would rather be alone without family or friends but like i liek to talk to my friends but like barely and they get pissed at me but they still like me cuz wen i talk like wen i talk ill talk tha rest of tha day and im realy nice and funny and sweet ^^

It is not weird at all. It's only a matter that they don't keep your interest. When you find someone who enjoys doing the things you like then you can enjoy the that person company. You also like to be with people who understand you and give the respect you want. Your mind is much higher than just talking, eating and shopping etc..You find these things boring. It's too common.

You want more out of life, not the every day c**p that high school students do all the time. Do I think this is unusual? Nope! You have high regards about yourself, and you should  God bless.

yo, maybe you need new friends..That are interested in things you are interested in? I went through something similar..My friends all wanted to party and i was so over that...I wanted to do other stuff..Hang out with new people..If you dont like hanging out w/ them then they are clearly not that important to you..You dont click so find new friends you do click with=)
