I'm 13 and I have recently taken a fancy to weight training. My cousin is a massive bodybuilder and I want to give it a try (AFTER PUBERTY). My dad thinks it's weird, my mum is OK with providing I wait for puberty. DO you think it's weird?

PS: I want to be one for self-defnece.

  1. Weight training and body building are similar, but they are not the same. You do not need to be a body- builder to defend yourself. Weight training can help with that though. Weight training is also great for maintaining weight and sculpting your body the way that you want. Anyway, excessive weight training to the point of wanting to be a body builder can hinder your growth. But if your parents are okay with it after you go through your physical puberty, then who cares? It shouldn't matter to you what other people think of your goals and aspirations.

  2. no its not weird, it is normal....but you don't have to wait until puberty is done.....but if the only reason you are doing it is because of self-defense then perhaps a little mma training or karate would be good

  3. It is fine to want to be a body builder. If you are looking for self defense then you are better off doing a martial arts or self defense class though. If you still want to be a body builder just make sure that you do it after you are done growin (it stunts your growth) and don't use steroids (they are bad for your health)

  4. Ewwwww! Body builders are gross!

  5. its not weird, give it a try if you want, if u want to do it seriously then you have to stick with it, it is a lot of hard work

  6. Give your body the chance it needs to grow.  DO NOT USE STERIODS. They can and have killed kids.

Start by light weightraining and see how you like it.  Takes a great deal of self discipline but you should try it.

  7. It's a lot of hard work to become a body builder, and you don't have to have massive muscles to protect yourself. If you're really interested in self-defence, taking a local class can help with that.

You've already talked to your parents about it, now research it together. Find out the requirements, the benefits, and such. This might help in making a decision and seeing if this is really the direction you wanna go.
