  1. Nothing wierd about it. Just ask for it!

Yes! it is always useful to have a confirmation number or a reservation reference or whatever they call it!

  2. Confirmation numbers are often not given by the person who makes your reservation. Mainly due to the call volume coming in and them wanting to get to the next person, or they're new and forget.... human error.

HOWEVER, that being said, they can also make an error on your arrival date and on most front desk opperating systems, when you come to check in, they pull up a list of arrivals for that day and look for your last name, or type it in and it looks through the arrivals for them.

If the person didn't give you a confirmation # and was careless in that aspect, who's to say that they got your arrival date right or that they spelled your name right, put the comma in the wrong spot and got your last/first name turned around. There's all kinds of things that can happen to your reservations. I would ALWAYS get a confirmation #. That is something that even if you change every single thing about your reservation, will stay the same (unless you change hotels).

You can change the arrival date, name on the res., credit card you have it guaranteed with, ect... and the conf. # will always be the same. I have people call all the time to verify their reservation with me and then at the end they always ask for the conf. #.

In short, call the hotel and make sure everything is ok & you might wanna let them know approximately what time you will be there. Just some advise. :)
