Question:

Is it weird to go on a holiday by yourself?

I wanted to go on an interstate trip during uni holidays. I was a bit spontaneous about making my decision (I was a bit bored and had enough cash), it was kinda there and then, pick a state out of the hat type thing. So you can't exactly turn around and say to someone "Hey do you want to go to Tasmania tomorrow"or "Hey, let's book a flight on Thursday (2 days later) to the Northern Territory". I spoke to someone about how I was thinking about the interstate holiday thing and they were like "You weren't going to go by yourself were you? shuddering away as if it was some kind of disease. Is it really that weird to travel in the same country by yourself? I'd get it if I was going overseas.

The only thing that stopped me going was a trip to the hospital. I got sent to emergency about 3-4 days later, which threw everything out of whack.

  1. Have any friends? Make them go with you.

  2. Dont let Other peoples insecurities affect what you are obviously confident enough to do solo.

Life is to be Lived not holed up in a comfort zone.

  3. I suppose it depends on the person, I have never thought about holidaying alone but I might do that one day who knows, but I don't think it's wierd at all ,you obviously don't think so and have the confidence to do it alone. a shame you fell sick there will be another time...Enjoy!

  4. I don't think it's weird

  5. it is not weird going on  a hoilday by your self because you can have fun and go to see other places.

  6. I find it better to go adventuring by yourself, always keep a contact list and let people know your leaving though, you don't want to cause a big scare that your missing lol Nope not weird to travel alone, i think it'd be more enjoyable you don't have to worry about so much. But then again it is nice to share experiences with ones you love and care about.

  7. I actually prefer going on my own.  I do a mix of the two, sometimes go with a bf if I have one at the time, sometimes with friends but going alone is definitely the best.  You get to do exactly what you want to do, wake up and decide what you want to do that day, do the trip you fancy.  So no its not weird in the slightest.  Sharing experiences is awesome but to miss out on those experiences because your friends can't get their act together and book (the first reason I ever went on holiday alone), friends can't afford it or your travelling partner doesn't want to see that amazing thing you want to, is worse.

  8. no

  9. No way! going on holiday by yourself can be one of the most relaxing fun things you can do. You dont have to pander to anyone else, you can get up and go exploring as early as you like in the morning, or sleep in all day if you want with no one to annoy you. Its a great way to meet people too.

The person who sneered is probably one of those people that must have themselves surrounded by people at all times.

Go and have a holiday! and throughly enjoy yourself, because thats the only person you will have to please, yourself :D

** if you do go to tasmania, go check out the Hellyers rd whiskey dist, its gorgeous :D

  10. I don't think there's anything wrong with holidaying by yourself.

That way you get to do what you want to do, when you want to do it.

I've been on a couple of holidays by myself and I find it's good to have a few activities booked, that way you can met people and get familiar with the area...

I find this site is good for searching and booking activities http://www.godo.com.au

Hope you have a good holiday and find something fun to do!

  11. Why not, a lot of people these days are marrying later and therefore staying single longer. Your friends might not be able to afford to go away all the time and may have their own families.

Why let being solo stop you from experiencing things. My aunty is 40, single and goes on great overseas holidays by herself and has a ball, she's made lots of friends on her trips.

If you want a quiet getaway to go shopping and see the sights you don't need someone with you. If you want more adventure then I would look into doing a tour so you can mingle with some new friends.

  12. Going on a holiday by yourself is not weird at all. It has huge benefits!

Ever wanted to linger by the water and look at the view but have an impatient companion that just wants to go look at cars or something that you aren't interested in?

How many times have you declined to have your favorite meal only because your travel partner doesn't like it?

What about wanting to spend 3 hours in the hotel shower in peace, enjoying the heat and not wanting to be disturbed by anyone else?

And a bottle of wine certainly goes much further when its just you.

    ;)

Maybe you can find a good deal at http://www.hotels2go.com.au/usersignup.p... sign up to see the deals, and to be in the running for a week long holiday in Bali - for free!

  13. no its not weird just go and do it, have fun.

people can  be judgemental at times. live life to the fullest, go & explore.  Enjoy!

  14. Who cares if it's weird? Just enjoy a little spontaneity.

  15. I don't think it's weird at all. Sometimes you need to get away from it all. I've done it. In between relationships, just to clear my head I would head off somewhere, on the spur of the moment. I would go interstate and spend 3 or 4 days away, sometimes meeting people and extending my time away. When yr free and have every opportunity, why not. People are strange for thinking anything wrong with this. It just proves yr comfortable with yourself. Good on you I think.

    Have fun.

  16. It's not weird. To me it shows confidence and that you like your own company. Kudos.
