There are a few calm days, but not many.  The topography of the mountain ensures that even a light breeze at lower elevations gets translated into a strong wind at the top. This is true of many mountain locations, but it's particularly the case with Mt. Washington. It's truly an amazing place.

There are some days during the year where the wind is light, but not many.  The main reasons are two-fold.  One, Mt Washington lies in the path of one of the more prevalent storm tracks that move across North America and exits over the north Atlantic.  Also, the elevation of Mt Washington essentially results in the top of the mountain sticking right up into that fast flow, with little else in the area to disrupt the wind flow at that elevation.
