Is it wise to chuck boiling water down a child's throat if they're choking on an ice cube? Please help!

my daughter choked on an ice cube.... I did nothing but keep her calm.... in a short few seconds, it melted enuff to slide on down.... less trauma all the way around.....

No child could be dead by the time the kettle boils, use Lighter fluid, de-icer, very strong alcohol, meths, or some form of Liquid solvent.

Edit - Having thought about it, you may not have any of these to hand, in such an event, use a thin solid instrument to poke the cube into the stomach, maybe a screwdriver or knife

First Aid is mostly common sense.  The course will give you the basics, but you may have to adapt proceedures to the circumstances you are in.  What do you do for a child who is choking?  The blockage material is irrelevant.  You have to ask yourself if throwing boiling water down a childs throat is really a good idea?  I hope you think it is not!!  If you do, I suggest you shouldn't let yourself be in a position where you look after them!!!

Yes - it's perfectly normal to do that. It's the same - if they have something stuck in their throat use a bill-hook to retrieve it.

i suggest that a red hot poker be shoved down the wretches throat. once the scalding hot metal touches the ice it will cause it to melt and in due course clear the airway.

the only difficulty is waiting for the fire tending accoutrement to heat up to temperature. personally i keep one in the fire on standby for this very reason, dib dib dib

Only if you wanted to go to jail for child abuse! Warm water or water should work! The problem would be they could get strangled on the water!
