My BF and I are looking to move out on our owwn soon and i'm wonderingn if going for places like Rent-A Center would be a good choice for us. We live in NYC, so everything costs more here, I'm just wondering would it be good for us, as young adults to go this route or save up for furniture, etc

  1. Personally, I would find a place that rents furniture by the month and rent just the bare minimum.  Bed, table, chairs, sofa.

Then after camping out for a month, look at the money you have saved up and then buy a piece of furniture.  Save up again, buy again.  Don't be above buying used furniture, dumpster diving, etal.

Visit a few furniture stores.  Price the item you want.   Then go to the RAC type store and compare the contract terms.  These places give list prices in excess of actual cost and work on the premise that you won't stay on the contract long enough to actually buy the item.

  2. If you rent to own you end up paying way too much in the end.

  3. Places like that are out there to make money.

People don't understand if you want something now just save and wait

in the long run you can have more but if you get it now you will be paying alot more for it in the long run.

So just save up for what you want and dont ruin your credit.

and when you pay cash for something and its paid for you will feel real good about yourself instead of paying for something that you could have gotten for a $1000 it now cost you $2500 and years of heartache

    hope this helps

  4. I would only do it if you need the stuff for a short time.  You will end up spending way more money and you won't even own it!
