  1. AVG is free...AVG free doesnt have all the protection that NIS provides for example u need a Firewall and other components that AVG doesnt provide

if ur sure u want a free antivirus then get Avira AntiVir- http://www.free-av.com

    and Comodo Firewall- http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/d...

  2. I personally would recommend the Comodo Pro firewall.  Don't be fooled by the "Pro" dub, it's all free.  This firewall is a little intimadating at first, but it's more than sufficient at it's default setting.  It's highly customizable for advanced users, and for begginers and intermediates, it's still usable.  Just one bit of advice though, make sure you switch the proactive defense mode from standard mode to installation mode when you're installing something from a CD or when installing a legitamate piece of downloaded software.  Failing to do so will result in a very frustrating installation process.  This I found out while installing software for a printer, of all things.

Also, if you feel like it, there is a Comodo Pro Plus+ available for purchase through the site, though I feel that the free version is more than sufficient.

  3. Two antiviruses running at the same time is a guaranteed problem. Only one antivirus is needed for each system; if two are ran simultaneously, it will slow down greatly. I personally recommend AVG For Free 8.0 over Norton, Norton has become a resource hogger this year. If you want extra security, invest in a firewall, I strongly recommend ZoneAlarm Pro.

  4. No, No No ..a thousand times NO!

Where did you get such a stupid idea?

Mostly n00bs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

Plus you would be trying to replace a full-blown internet security suite (your current NIS) with a very mediocre anti-virus only.

AVG has proven itself to be a miserable performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a while" updates.

There are much better free anti-virus alternatives such as Avria Anti-Vir:

    http://www.free-av.com/

    and Avast:

    http://avast.com/eng/free_software.html

Again just be aware, that if you try to replace a security suite with a simple anti-virus app such as AVG, you will need to supply your own anti-spyware, your own anti-spam program as well as a firewall.

Honestly this world would be a better place if NO one had every heard of POS AVG!

  5. Like said before AVG does not have all the features that Norton has... I have the same dilemma.. I plan on riding out Norton untill the end of the subscription... then switching to AVG...

An added fact i saw inside a curys shop i think...

the average family home comes under attack every twelve minutes... internet attack that is

  6. AVG is GARBAGE ! use Avast [ free too ] instead
