Question:

Is it wise to support Georgia against Moscow?

When the Soviet Union broke up, Russia was promised that NATO would not expand into Eastern Europe. Lo and behold, Georgia (the birth place of Joseph Stalin!) is slated to join NATO. The United States is talking tough and sending aid to Georgia, after Georgia started a battle against Moscow and lost. This is not the U.S.'s backyard-it is very dangerous what is going on right now with the Bush/Cheney Cabal.

  1. This is one of the few cases that I agree with Bush's administration.  Georgia did not start a conflict with Moscow. Georgia attempted to suppress a rebelling state.  South Ossetia is legally part of Georgia.  Moscow has, since their invasion, recognized South Ossetia as a sovereign nation, along with another region.  Both these regions have been semi-autonomous since Georgia's independence.

Russia's actions have set a dangerous precedent.  Russia responded brutally when Chechnya wanted to separate from Moscow.  This could create a trend that could lead to Iraq separating into a Kurdish state, a Shiite State, and a Sunni State.

Provoking Russia may not be the greatest idea, but not trying to help is wrong.  Georgia is our ally.

  2. Bush will be gone soon, lets see how the new president handles it.You will normally find that the conflicts between Russia and America go a lot deeper than the surface arguments they show you.Democracy and communism will always cross swords because of their different political views and outlooks.Posturing is common but the only downside is human life appears to be expendable in this "I'm not affraid of you"game.
