  1. Yes, its actually a good practice.  Its better on older computers.  Charging you battery too much is actually bad for you battery.

I have a newer lenovo, and you can actually set it so it does not charge the battery until like 50%.  This is good, so that you don't charge/cycle your battery unnecessarily.

  2. Actually it won't cause any problems except if you accidentally knocked out the cord and then it will just shut down so make sure you don't accidentally unplug the laptop.

I did this about 1 week ago because i was also curios about this.  But it wont cause any problems that will harm your laptop.

  3. Using your laptop with or without the battery plugged in is not a sign of wisdom.

Whether is is a mistake is something no one here can answer.  You don't tell us what laptop you are talking about.  Must likely, it is fine.  Contact the manufacturer for the real answer.

  4. It should have no effect upon your laptop at all, Although I would suggest you get yourself a new battery. If you cannot get a new battery I don't see any problem with it at all... (If you get a new battery just make sure it matches your system) That's all I have to say and I hope it helps...

  5. It should do nothing to the laptop. I'm quite sure you will be perfectly fine.

  6. I've never personally tried it but from everything I've read you're not supposed to use a laptop without a battery installed. As to why it won't power on with the bad battery installed, I'm not sure. It should.
