Question:

Is it wise to visit the Cayman Islands in May?

I'm thinking of returning to Grand Cayman for about 10 days mid to late May this year. However some people claim this is when the rainy & hurricane season picks up and it would be a waste of money. Are they right?

  1. The hurricane season started exceptionally early this year, in May, and ended exceptionally late. (here was even activity in December!) However, the season normally begins in June and Grand Cayman tends to have fewer hurricanes than surrounding islands, although Hurricane Ivan seemed to those of us who lived through it to more than make up for years of hurricane-free seasons! You should have no worries about a trip in the latter part of May. Enjoy your trip and don't listen to all those dismal stories.

  2. No, I think it's later in the year, Sept/Oct.

  3. You should be able to find this out at the Weather Channel website or at an official Cayman website.

  4. hurricane season is from june-november.

  5. Regarding your qustion about rain, this may help you:

"March and April are our driest months and May and October are traditionally the highest rainfall months.

This of course, does not mean that it rains constantly during either of those months, but reflects the trend within our region. Being in a tropical zone, it is not unusual to have brief afternoon showers during the summer, and, at certain times, brief morning sprinkles too. Similar to most West Indian Islands, rainfall tends to be higher in the western sections."

You should be fine.  Enjoy your trip!
