  1. buy a new one.  It will cost you more in the long run to rebuild.  Most shops do not rebuild that much.  too many warranty issues and not cost effective for you.  A new power head will run just about as much as a shop would charge you.  Then you have a new motor.

  2. A new one will last a while and have a warranty--you doing all that work means you still have an old motor. Spend the money then get out on the water and have fun

  3. Do you mean new engine entirely or just the powerhead? I would first have a mechanic evaluate the rest of your engine(gearcase, trim unit, steering arm, electrical, etc.) and then decide what to do. If everything checks I would buy a powerhead complete from the original manufacturer and have a reputable shop install it. If your engine is old, in bad shape, or if you can afford it, a new complete engine is always the easiest and quickest way to be boating again. Warranty is always nice. I would recommend a Yamaha 115 FOUR STROKE or 150 if possible. They are great engines!
