Is it worth customizing a vw jetta?

Question

I have a 1998 jetta auto. Is it worth customizing? It has 114000 miles on it and I do not know how long I will have it. I was going to paint it black, its currently red, it has 14" rims on it and I wanna put 17" on it, and I am going to put a performance muffler or it to make that deep sound. Soo do you think its worth it because I may have of for only 2 years. Please keep in mind that I am a junior in high school and I want a sleek nice car. PLEASE DO NOT SAY JETTAS ARE c**p I just wanna know if I should do this or not

It might be worth it to you, if you sell the car you will not recoup money spent on accessories. I would not put a bunch of money it it if you will only have it 2 years.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother doing anything to it.  I'm assuming it's just a 2.0L because of the 14" rims...so the sound isn't anything great anyway.  Also, to completely change the color of a car is expensive because they have to remove so many parts for a good paint job.  You should just save that money and upgrade to a better Volkswagen, perhaps a Jetta VR6, when you have enough money.  Also, parking a nice car in a highschool parking lot means it won't be nice for long.  Stupid people will door ding it (believe me...my old car had the marks to show it).  Especially since you said you plan on only keeping it for a couple years...just doesn't sound like it's worth the time or money in my opinion.

And also, I had that exact same car when I was 16 except mine was dark green.  Same engine, gearbox, and model year.  It was a pretty good car to me and it convinced me to get another Volkswagen, so I drive a 2008 Rabbit Sport now and it's awesome.

if you  plan on never selling the car yes, but if you want to sell it one day you will loose all the money you put in it, in some cases aftermarket parts devalue the car more
