Question:

Is it worth extra for thinner lenses?

It costs an extra £60 (roughly $110) to have my lenses made "thinner" in my glasses. My eyes are -5.00 and my lenses around an inch thick. Is it worth it or does it not do much to thick lenses? Thanks

  1. yes, definitely worth the thinner lenses.  you will regret it if you get the thick ones.

  2. Wow, that is a big difference in price to get Hi-index ( thinner) lenses !

It makes a big difference though for sure.

Not only for better  appearance and half the weight, but your vision will be better also because with less edge thickness, there will be a lot less distortion when you look out towards the edges of the lenses. They will be at least 40% thinner than a regular plastic lens.

That is a ridiculous difference in price though I must say.

  3. Defintely worth it. My prescription is -4.75 and I had the thinner lenses last time, and they are great. Much lighter and you don't get the beer bottle look. If you choose a frame with smaller lens "holes" (sorry don't know the right word) then the lenses will be even thinner, because concave lenses are thicker at the edge than the middle.
