Is it worth getting four wheel disk breaks?

I am in the process of buying a new car, possibly a Honda Civic. The base model has 2 wheel disk breaks, the next up has 4 wheel disk breaks. Is it worth the extra 2 grand to get breaks on all 4 wheels?

  1. "Is it worth the extra 2 grand to get breaks on all 4 wheels?"

    mmmmmmmmm....

I think if you look really hard there will be BRAKES on all 4 wheels anyway! the rear BRAKES may be drum BRAKE on a poverty spec. model. They will still stop you when you press the BRAKE pedal.

If you really have to ask this question are you clever enough to own a car?

PS. cars have BRAKES, if you break something its broken!

  2. In reality they don't stop the car any faster.  About 70% of the car braking power comes from the front brakes - regardless.

    They are slightly less maintenance.

    Good Luck....

  3. Being a car dealer autobroker myself, I recomend getting disc all the way around......2000 over a life of a loan comes out to 8 dollars a month,,,you get a much better resale value,,,also its easy to change the brake pads on disc brakes,,,,a brake job at the dealership is around 600.00, you can buy the pads yourself for 40.00 and it only takes a little bit of time and minimal instruction,,,,so spend the extra money get the disc all around........

  4. No way. The base model stops fine as it is and the marginal improvement back discs would give is certainly not worth 2 grand. If it was £200 I would probably go for it.

  5. I don't think it is, that's a lot of money especially if it's is financed
