I live in Louisiana and want to get my Real Estate License. I know the market is down but I have 2 friends who are in real estate and doing really well. I would really like to sell homes and just wondering if it's all worth it?

Also I have heard the test is hard! Are there any tips on what to study or how to study?

  1. To know more about

    Real Estate

  2. Attend the pre-licensing course.  This course is 6-8  weeks. This course will prepare you to take the state examination. The instructor knows exactly what is on the test.  I would sell homes on the side until you master the real estate business.  Do not quit your job to sell homes until you are sure this is what you want to do.  Start off part-time/ weekends. When you feel like this is something you want to do full-time then you will probably be very good at it.  Good Luck!

  3. Musical, that has to be a personal decision based on homework only you can do and comparing it to your financial picture and your way of life.

What I would tell you is that this will be your company. It's no different than opening a store front, only you have to work under a broker.  You will need capital to get your business going and a business plan.   If you feel you are ready to operate a business on your own, then go for it.  There are a lot of people out there who had less going for them and have made a living.

  4. I will tutor you free.

IT is hard.  35% pass on the first test. I did.back then

I passed my broker's test on the first try. but I practiced

in my office for 2 weeks first!  [practice tests]

    I am a broker elsewhere.

  5. talk to a real estate BROKER near you. They will help you study for the RE exam, which is not hard if you are prepared. Yes, a RE license is worth it, but only if you are self motivated and willing to work at the job. Being professional and dedicated will take a few years to establish a clientele, but after a few years, your dedication will pay off in repeat business and referrals. Whether you succeed or not is entirely up to you--and it (success) can be achieved in good markets and bad. Good luck.
