My husband wants to get me a dog while he's away so I'm not always alone. I don't like being alone or coming home to an empty house or being alone at night. I wanted to ask the other wives if having a dog is worth it. We have no children and we don't plan on having any until he's out which is pry another 15-24 years.

Is it worth it or are you to busy to have a dog?

  1. I have a boxer named Skitch! He's a pain in the butt, but I love him and I will feel much safer when my husband deploys. He is protective of me and I know he won't let anyone who doesn't belong in my house. In order to have pets here, we just have to keep them up to date on shots and get them microchipped, which at the clinic on base isn't very much! Much cheaper than off base. And we have to register him at the housing office. That's it. Before you get a dog, make sure you check into the regulations for your base / housing area, because sometimes certain breeds aren't allowed, but it varies.

  2. Personally I think it's worth it. My son and I enjoy him. Only get one if YOU want to. I know your hubby wants one, but get one if YOU want one too. Because you will be the one taking care of it when he is gone. If you decide this is what you want, research breeds and stuff and go adopt one! There are many dogs out there that need homes. It's not just mixed breeds there, they have purebreds too. If you decide not to get a dog, look at smaller pets.....

Dogs keep you busy! They do make time fly though...

Good luck, think it thru !

  3. that dog will help you keep it together while he is gone. we have a dog and yes she is a pain in the butt, but she kept me laughing, comforted me when i was sad, and barked when she heard things outside. now most of the time, it was nothing to bark at, but if there ever was anyone trying to get in, she'd probably scare them away! our dog is our child. she just gets left at home when we go out, unlike a human child. but when all of your other friends are busy, that dog will always be there for you. go to the humane society and adopt a dog/puppy. youll be saving a life, and thats something to feel good about, right?

yes it is worth it to have a dog!

  4. if you like dogs... yes get one. if you don't... don't. it's not hard to have a dog on base. just check with the vet on base, like stated above. I want to address the kid issue?

you want to wait until he's out before you have kids? 35-45-ish.... years old? wouldn't you want to spend that time together.. maybe traveling together.. not changing diapers?

  5. get a robot dog!
