Is it worth installing evacuated glass tubes?

I've heard differing reports of using these as a method of water heating versus air source heat pumps - I was thinking of installing both. I know they are better than standard absorbers, but do I need them AND an air source heat pump?

You don't say where you're located.  That's going to affect the value of solar for water heating.

I doubt that it makes sense to use both solar heat and a heat pump.  You'll probably have a lower total cost with either a heat pump or solar plus resistance backup.
