  2. This was several years ago when I did this. Advertising in the newspaper ads up quickly. We did a combination of classified and print ads. Classified in a single paper in the business was around $400 for a two week run. We found some places that would get you “3 million readers” for about $2K a week. Those were all over the country, but the majority were neighborhood papers and thrifty nickels. Print ads were hundreds a day.

    The tough part was you run an ad, not get the response, then ask yourself what was wrong? Was it the copy text, the wrong day of the week, the wrong paper, the wrong picture? You can then experiment, but each experiment cost you the ad run. You can hire marketing people, but that comes with a price tag and they usually want to start off with a market study.

    If you are confident you have good copy material, then do it. If not, it an become a slippery slope.

  5. It really depends on what you are selling. If you do target newspapers I would not ignore online because most purchases start at a search engine so if you are not there you could be mising out on a tremendous amount of traffic. You can also target online to a local audience through local search engine optimization.

  6. Local media campaigns, whether they're fueled by press releases or paid advertising, can be extremely effective.

    In my experience, local newspaper placement has been the most effective and most successful form of marketing in terms of increased Web site traffic, increased leads and overall sales.

    I would definitely recommend pursuing newspaper advertising!
