  1. A Philips 42" 1080p Full HD with Ambilight costs around $1300. These are the new 2008 models that just came out this May.  4HDMI inputs and a contrast ratio of 29000 :1. The ratio means the contrast between darks and lights. A good contrast ratio for a 42" would be 20000: 1- 40000:1 Good luck.

  2. You can probably save yourself some money by checking out digitaldealz.net.  A buddy of mine just picked up an awesome Samsung set from them for a great price, free delivery, and no tax.  Shipping was fast, and service was excellent.

But to answer your question, it is probably the better choice to go with the full HD, but check out that site, you should be able to get a better price.
