  1. miniDV will have a long life because in addition to  the consumer versions, DV is used professionally. If you already have a widescreen TV, then i would get a miniDV that has the 16:9 option so that your pictures will fill the screen.

  2. if u dont have enought money 4 a cam buy a dcr-hc27 cam its cheap

  3. at the moment there is nothing that can compare to the quality of mini dv. HD mini dv is the best for the price, not talking about professional cameras.

both HDD cameras and dvd cameras give reasonable results but HDD cameras need to compress the data to get as much info onto the disk. normally mp4 any compression reduces the quality, mini dv uses none of it unless you select it in your capture prog. down side the files are big 5 minutes 1.06gb but that is as good as your camera can give you,

If you try to edit compressed film the the quality is reduced again, so by the time you have edited it and put it on a dvd the picture is far from perfect (DVD or HDD) mini dv is still as good as you are going to get.

I have just brought a dcr-h62 great little camera, still use canon xl1 for paid work bit too big to take on holiday.

up to you how much you want to pay, if you have the money go for HD Mini dv amazing results but no point if you are only playing back on a standard TV

    hope this helps

Mini DV NOT DEAD and will be here for a long time
