Is it worth it to buy a moped?

Question

I was thinking of buying a moped I saw for sale for $500.00. I wanted to buy it to save money on gas this summer. It actually goes up to 55mph according to the current owner and is a 2006 model. (I don't remember the make)

He says there are no restrictions to driving it except that I can't go on the highway...is this true?

Is it worth the investment or should I just ride my bike? How much is insurance for a Moped?

that's a great idea,with the way gas prices has risen,..a moped would be great!

Only your state dmv can confirm the question of driving w/o a permit. I'd really double check that one. If it goes 55 mph, I'd be concerned the current owner may be driving illegally. But if you want to save gas, you bet! Drive one. Insurance can vary alot. A quote from an agent is what you need. So many people ask questions about insurance here that no one can answer. There are too many variables. G'luck!

Well that moped would probably get you anywhere you want to go, and I would think its a good investment!

They get like 80mpg, so its better than a car, unless you live up north like me (cause up here in Wisconsin its pretty cold 50% of the year!).
