Think about it....look how many years it took these girls to develop the skills it takes to get famous for their moment in the sun and try for gold. Then after the prelims, they get ONE shot at each apparatus to win a medal. Blow it, and they're in tears. Then there's the ones who barely miss even making the Olympic team. SCORES of them. In a way it's kind of a waste. They have no lives while doing all those years of training. Is it worth it?

  1. they prob do it cos they love the sport and love their country

plus its worth training and becoming really good at whatever sport than just not doing it at all

if you can get into the olympics you're hardout already so if you don't get a medal you're still way better than other people

  2. to get that far you have to be accomplished. i never won a state championship in high shcool was it worth it.... of course.  its dissapointing to lose but even to make it to the trials for your country puts you in the top 1% in the world and is an honor to be that commited and talented

  3. It depends. It's only worth it if you love what you do. You can get more than one shot. Theres a 31 year old gymnast in the olympics right now.

  4. i think its a waste

  5. they do compete in tons of other competitions like nationals and world.

  6. I reckon the feeling of pride for representing their country would be enough for most athletes.

  7. You are kidding, right?

"Is it worth it" is such a loaded question.

Is it worth it to train 8 years to be a doctor and end up in tears to become a super model and a millionaire's trophy wife?

Is it worth it to be good enough to represent your country?

Is it worth it to refuse to even try to make it to the Olympic trials because some wise guy "advised" that you have no life?

Is it worth it to even "Think about how many years it took these girls to develop the skills it took to get famous for their moment in the sun and try for gold. Then after the prelims, they get ONE shot at each apparatus to win a medal"?

Is it worth it to even answer you?

  8. its like any sport, they do it for enjoyment. I am a figure skater i do it because i enjoy it, not because i want to go to the olympics.

  9. Obviously they think it is or they wouldn't be doing it.  Most of them start as they are interested in the sport not because they have a dream of going to the Olympics.  It would be sensational to participate in the Olympics and even those that don't get to have the honour of being asked to try out.  There are also several other events that they compete in that doesn't quite have the prestige of the Olympics but are great all the same.

  10. Not worth it in my opinion... maybe the glory and all that is worth it for some people but the sacrifice those people make is ridiculous... could spend their time doing something more... worthwhile?

  11. You're assuming gymnastics is a chore. To most athletes, it is their passion and they love what they do. Yes, it is worth it.

  12. It depends on your motivation. If you only care about winning, then it's tough on you. If you enjoy the sport, and enjoy competing against the world's best, then you will appreciate the opportunity to be at the Olympics.

Also, for most sports (including gymnastics) the Olympics is special, but not the only event. There are national championships and world championships, and other international competitions.
