Is it worth it to get rid of my land line?

We're thinking about going over to cell phones only. What are the pros and cons to this? How would we get internet access? Could we do a wireless internet service, or are those available only in certain areas? Thanks!

  1. My first choice for Broadband Internet is Cable. Do you have a cable company that services your area? And, if you go with Cable Internet, you can also get Vonage Phone service. It is only 24.95 a month plus taxes. My total vonage bill is 30.57 a month total. Cell phone plans that give you unlimited, or enough anytime minutes can be very expensive.....so I will break down my scenario for you.

I was paying for just a cell phone.... totally unlimited, 24 hours a day, $99.99 a month, but taxes are about 21% a month, taking me to over $130 a month including my phone insurance. So....................

I got Vonage Service (don't order online, you get a much better deal by calling and ordering,... the number is VONAGE-HELP. It is a toll free number. ) I was given all the equipment for free, only paid $9.95 shipping and handling for the equipment, and was given the first 2 months free, and they also waived the activation fee of $28.95. So starting on the 3rd month, I will only owe approximately $30.50 total each month from there on.  Also with vonage, you get unlimited (24 hours a day) calls to anywhere in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and right now select companies in Europe such as England, Germany, France, and I'm not sure what other ones are free

Now..... I changed my cell phone plan to the lowest I could get.... $39.95/month > 450 anytime minutes > unlimited nights and weekends > all the calling features, never a roaming charge within the united states, ever, voicemail, call forwarding, etc etc......

So......when I do the math, I am actually saving about $45 a month from making all these changes after everything is said and done.

Also, you can take your landline number to Vonage phone service. I have used them before, and believe me, you cannot tell it is not a landline. It is absolutely clear and reliable. Only problem would be is if your electrcity or cable went out, but you'd still have your cells for backup

  2. One thing to consider is when you give your number away to all the forms you fill out, do you really want people calling you on your mobile? Or would you rather have them call your house and not waste your minutes? I have both, I have a minimal minutes plan for and just an instate phone plan. We also have an alarm system so the phone line helps us with that.

  3. Go through AT&T. They have the best service.

  4. I have no land line, i only use Cell Phone, why pay both?

You can order the Internet service without a land line, it's DSL.

I have AT & T... the pros and cons are, with land line you pay for long distance, with Cell phone there are no long distance charges, I have the 450 minute plan with them, it works well for me, plus roll over minutes, etc, etc.
