My parents are remodeling our home, we are adding 2 more rooms. The guy who is remodeling our home suggested us to install Central air for the whole house for about 5k-6k. He said that there will be heater and air condition. Is it worth it to have it install? or should i just install the ceiling fan? Can anyone tell me the pros and cons about the Central air? What's the best way to save money? already put 80k to remodel... that's alot already to struggle.

  1. It depends on where you live. I live in Phoenix AZ, so yes, it was worth the money to install it in our 5 room house a couple years ago. One thing to think about: Do other houses in your neighborhood have central air? If so, if you decide to sell the house in the future, without central AC, your house will be at a disadvantage.

It is much easier to install duct work for the central air during construction. Much harder and messier to install after the fact. If the unit you are installing is an AC and heat pump, this can be a cost saving and space saving, as you will not have to have a separate furnace. When we did this, we were able to take out the old furnace  which freed up a whole closet area for extra storage.  Make sure you get a good brand, which should have a 10 year + warranty.

  2. central air is usually worth the money but it mainly depends on you

can you take the heat well??   how important is comfort versus finances to you??

as far as the finances go, central air would over time save you money compared to window unit(s) it will use less electricity and be better for the environment and your pocket book

  3. I think putting in central air is always worth it because if you were to sell your house one day it may add value and if you didn't have it it may turn away buyers. Also on those hot sticky days it's very nice to relieve the heat in your house. The only downside I would say about central air would be is it initially costs a lot and it will tack on to your energy bill a little. But believe me it is worth having it, it gets you away from all that smog and humid air. Good luck with the re-model
