Does anyone know if it would be worth it to stay in Milan Italy instead of Venice or Tuscany and just take train day trips to visit the other places in Italy?

  1. I would not chose Milan. It is not my favorite city.  If you would like to see Tuscany and Venice perhaps base yourself in Tuscany and then take a few days trip to Venice. Tuscany is fairly central and is a good place to base yourself for exploring other lovely regions like Umbria, Marche and Liguria

  2. I wouldnt take day trips to visit other cities. Italy isnt big but its not that small either. You would spend too much time on a train.

I do not like Milan. To me it seems like a city that was taken from another country and put into italy.

Venice is beautiful, if you are going a romantic trip then I would stay there for a while. Personally, I like it for 2 days and then I am ready to move on.  If you are staying in Venice and want to go to another city. I would recommend Bologna finding a Hotel in Bologna can be difficult so thats why I would suggest to go . Its not very toursity as other cities, but it is well worth going. You can see the main stuff in a day. Its only about an hour from Venice.

Florence, now this is a city that you can go to and stay and take mini day trips. Sienna is very close, Pisa is an hour away. Rome is about 2 hours. But if you are going to Rome I would suggest you move over to a hotel in Rome.

  3. Milan is not exactly a great tourist destination compared to the others.

Instead I suggest you make Pisa/Florence your base as well as stay over in Venice. It's all part of the experience. There's somelinks below.

btw - i gave you a link to a friends place which they rent out in Tuscany - mention my name if you plan to go there

This site had alot of neat stuff.

  5. Do some research on the cities and see what types of stores, sites, etc. you seem to be the most interested in. Personally, Venice is my favorite city in Italy. Milan(o) is ok, but not fantastic. A few of my cousins, aunts, and uncles live in Milan, so that was really the only thing to see there.

I hope you have a wonderful time wherever you go! ☼
