  1. I used to drink Michelob Ultra Amber for awhile out of pure pleasure, not because I was on a diet.  If you like amber beers that one may be worth switching to.  Otherwise, I wouldn't bother switching.  Most people suggest that you give yourself one cheat/free day per week when you're on a diet anyway, and that could be combined with your drinking day.  In my experience, adding in this cheat day has helped me stay on track the rest of the week, and I've never cheated enough to gain back significant weight.

Another option may be to have one or two servings of your preferred beer, and afterwards switch to ultra.  You may want to keep in mind, however, that with a significant decrease in carb-intake in your diet you will likely get drunk faster, and will therefore likely [need to] drink less beer as well.

Do what works best for you.  If you don't enjoy Mich Ultra chances are you'll eventually say 'to heck with it!' and end up switching back.

  2. Make the switch.

If you are on the first phase do not drink at all.

If you are going to stay o n the first phase for all of you weight loss (I lose about 4 ponds/wk on phase 1) you must not consume more than 20 grams of carbs per day. Ultra has 2.6 so you want no more than 2-3 beers. Also know that the alcohol will wash the water out of your body and along with it the ketones. Remember the ketones are the chemicals from the breakdown of fat. They are your energy source. Since they are in the blood (the water part of blood called plasma) you will lose them in the water you p**s off. Thus you will not have the energy source and feel weak. This may drive you to eat some lovely potatoes or other evil carbohydrate food. Now you have lost your two hard weeks to complete the first phase.

Be careful make your choice wisely.

Do not drink the average beer. It contains about 10-15 grams of carbs per 12 ounce beer.

  3. I on the other hand need to put ON a couple pounds! But if you insist on cutting back on calories when drinking beer I would consider a lager like Heineken.

  4. It's NEVER worth it to switch to Michelob Ultra!!! Besides a coupleof light beers on the weekends won't put you off of your goal too much, anyway.

  5. Easy answer. I copy Character Study's answer. I am very surprised that some intelligence is found in YA but that is a good answer.
