Is it worth it to take the AP art exam without taking the class?

I'm really interested in Art history and have already taken a semester in 11th grade. Now I'm entering my senior year and the AP Art History class isn't offered in my school. I study hard and i get pretty good AP scores, all 4's and a 3. I also heard that it's possible to take these classes online, is this true?

I took the course, but it was an independent study.  I believe you can do it, although there are no study guides like there are for other courses (at least at the time when I took it).  I would go for it.  Good luck.
